Day #45 – Girls Night Out

Sarasota FL

It is a cold and rainy day. Ick! It is 38 degrees and we are freezing our butts off here in sunny, tropical Florida. This morning Suzie, Mom, and I went downtown to see saw “It’s Complicated” starring Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, and Alec Baldwin. We stopped at the Farmer’s Market on the way. It was nice to see some people still came out in this weather to support the local vendors. There is less of everything. Less vendors. Less crowds. Less sun shine, and less warmth. I could see my breath while I was shivering in line. I do not have a coat for this temperature. On the news last night they said it was colder in Tampa, Florida than in Denver, Colorado. Yet, some bozo from NY was wearing shorts today. I guess he didn’t watch the news.

After the movie we dropped Mom off at the house and Suzie and I went out for a romantic early supper/late lunch. We tried a little restaurant called New York New York (http://newyorknewyorksarasota.com/). They offer several nice “dinner for two” specials. Suzie had mussels over garlic butter pasta and I had a chicken with a thick creamy tomato sauce over fat tubes of pasta. Both meals were incredibly good and were served with an optional glass of wine. I opted in.

Next, we met up with Barb, Brenda, Mary and Sue for some bowling and a little girls’ night out. None of us had bowled in awhile, but that didn’t hold us back at all! Lots of laughter and lots of fun. I really feel lucky to have these women in my life. A night of laughter was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

But wait! There’s more! We headed over to Barb and Brenda’s for bowls of hot, steaming chili! We talked with our friends about our feelings about our house, our trip, and just feeling stir crazy. It really is too damn cold to even think about being in the trailer right now. The pipes are freezing in some people’s Florida homes. The garden hose that supplies our trailer would never have a chance. Barb loaned us several books on day trips around central Florida. We’re looking forward to taking one!

Barb and Brenda also gave us a key to their home. That means we don’t have escape to Borders in order to get quiet and peaceful Internet access – we can sit at their dining room table, update this blog, and scratch Freddie’s ears. I am very grateful for all the support these friends have given us.
